Monday, October 5th

To begin, let us acknowledge that KSS is situated on traditional Anishinaabe (Ah- nish-in-ah-bay) and Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-o-show-nee) territory. We are grateful to be able to live and learn on these lands.

School Events:

• This week is mental illness awareness week, a national campaign to raise awareness of mental illness and substance use health, and reduce stigma. If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out to the support staff in student services or a trusted adult. Help is always available!
• Attention Grade 12's - The Atlantic Provinces University Fair is taking place on Monday, October 5th from 4-6 pm at KSS. Come out and get more information about universities in Atlantic Canada.
• Rideau Public School is looking for volunteers to help with their Halloween Boo Bash on October 29th and 30th.  Connect with Ms. Lister or Ms. Rose in Student Services to volunteer.
• Today is World Teachers’ Day! Take a moment today to say thank you to your teachers for everything they do.

Clubs: 

• There is an Ethics Bowl meeting today at lunch in room 153. This is a mandatory meeting for anybody interested in participating in Ethics Bowl. 
• Hey Bears! Ready to debate? There is a Debate Club meeting today after school in room 153. See you there! 
• Affinity meets tomorrow at the back of the library! See you Tuesday in the library. 

Tuesday, October 6th

School Events:

• This week is mental illness awareness week, a national campaign to raise awareness of mental illness and substance use health, and reduce stigma. Make sure you introduce yourself to our wonderful Adolescent Care Workers, Denis & Shona, in case you are even looking for support or helping a friend! 

• We want to remind everyone to take some time to slow down, relax and take care of yourself. Starting today the library will be open during lunch as a Wellness Space. Feel free to come by during lunch to enjoy a calm space with activities like colouring, puzzles, board games, and more as the week goes on. Everyone is welcome, whether you want to participate in an activity or simply have a quiet place to spend your lunch, we want to see you there and remember to take care of your mental health!

• This year’s annual OSSTF/FEESO Student Achievement Award of $1000, creates an original piece of writing, art, or media on this year’s theme Creating A Meaningful Legacy. The submission deadline is November 12th, 2026. Your application package will go through a school, district, regional, and provincial competition. Please speak with Ms. Munro or Mme Rodríguez for more info!

• Rideau Public School is looking for volunteers to help with their Halloween Boo Bash on October 29th and 30th. Connect with Ms. Lister or Ms. Rose in Student Services to volunteer.

Clubs: 

• Interested in playing in a band? Join Concert Band, open to anyone interested in playing a band instrument! Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Come out and make some music with us! 
• Looking for a bit more of a musical challenge? Join Jazz Band! This ensemble rehearses Tuesdays after school until 3:45 p.m. If you're interested in playing jazz and challenging yourself musically, come check it out! 
• Hey Bears! Important reminder that registration on deca.ca and payment on SchoolDay are due October 8th. Late submissions cannot be accepted, so make sure you finish both steps to secure your spot for Regionals! Plus, join us on October 20th at 4:45 PM for Mock Regionals to get hands-on prep and feedback before competition day!

Attention Grade 12's! The Central Eastern Regional University Fair is taking place on Tuesday, October 13th from 6-8 pm at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. Representatives from many Ontario Universities will be present. Come out to speak with a representative and get your questions answered.

Attention Grade 12 International Students - KSS has been approved to submit a nominee for the Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship. Please check your email or see Ms. Rose in Student Services. Applications are due at 3:00 on Thursday, October 8th.

Clubs: 

Art Club is in Room 230 every Wednesday at lunch! Pop-in & work out your creativity! 

Interested in making KSS a little greener? Join Eco Circle, meeting Wednesdays at lunch! We’re a club focused on taking green initiatives and making a positive environmental impact in our community. We’re looking for new members, and everyone is welcome! 

Calling all Grade 9 and 10 students! Junior Band is a great place to try out a band instrument or continue playing one you already know. Rehearsals are Wednesdays after school until 3:45 p.m. All experience levels are welcome!

Hello, Wellness club members, this Wednesday will be our first Wellness meeting where we will play fun board games! Please come and enjoy the fun!

Ping Pong Club is starting up on Thursday. We will practice in the tech hallway at lunch by rooms 142 and 143 every Thursday. Come play with your friends, or to meet some new people and improve your table tennis skills! See you Thursday in the tech hallway!

Hey bears! Are you interested in math competitions? Please check out school day for information regarding payment and due dates for registration for COMC, CSMC, CIMC, AMC and BCC!!

Do you like chess or want to learn how to play? Come join us every Thursday in the library!  You don’t have to be perfect at playing chess. Whether you’re a beginner or already know how to play, everyone is welcome! Come play some games, learn new moves, and have fun with other students/ friends. Its every Thursday in the library at lunchtime !!

• This year’s annual OSSTF/FEESO Student Achievement Award of $1000, create an original piece of writing, art, or media on this year’s theme Creating A Meaningful Legacy. The submission deadline is November 12th, 2026. Your application package will go through a school, district, regional, and provincial competition. • Today is International Lesbian Day, it’s a day to celebrate lesbian culture and history!

• Student cards are for sale today and tomorrow at lunch next to the atrium for $5. Having a student card is necessary to get into school events like dances, and numerous stores and restaurants in Kingston offer discounts to students who present their cards.

Grade 12's! There is a College Fair happening at St. Lawrence College on October 28th.  Learn about college options and meet with representatives from colleges across Ontario.  We will take a bus over, sign up in Student Services.

Want to help plan events and elevate the arts at KSS? Join Music Council, meeting Fridays at lunch! Anyone interested in supporting music and the arts at KSS is welcome, and you do not need to play an instrument to join. 

Love to sing? Come join Singing Club, meeting Fridays after school until 3:30 p.m. Anyone interested in singing is welcome—come make music with us!

We have  a mandatory STEM fellowship meeting  this Friday in 227 from 11:08 -11:50. We will be talking about the High school big data challenge and how to sign up. Make sure to come!
