Dear KSS/Vanier Families,

After five years as Principal of Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute (now Kingston Secondary School) and Module Vanier, I am moving on to a position with the Limestone District School Board Education Centre. I will begin my new position as Senior Human Resources Lead in early March, following the end of Octomester five.
Ms. Darlene Scarlett will assume the role of KSS/Vanier Principal on March 4, 2021. Ms. Scarlett is no stranger to the KSS community as she previously served as the Principal of KCVI for years before moving on as Principal of the LDSB Educational Services team. She is excited to be returning to this wonderful school community, and I know you will be in exceptional hands.

This move is bittersweet. It has been my absolute pleasure and privilege to lead the students and staff within the KSS/Vanier community over the past five years. We have worked together to build our new school community despite many challenges and obstacles. Through it all, students, families and staff exhibited patience, positivity, respect and resilience, and we were finally rewarded by moving into our beautiful new school just before the December break.

As we all know, schools are so much more than buildings. Schools are safe places where people come together to learn and to grow – often where formative relationships are made and nurtured. I have met many wonderful people during my time here, and I am grateful for my time with you. Thanks to all students and families for your support and understanding over the years.

Thanks to our amazing staff – past and present – who have always gone above and beyond to support students, families and each other. The KSS community is very special to me and I will miss all of you more than you will know.

The memories we have made together will stay with me forever. I will always be the proud last principal of KCVI and proud first principal of KSS.

Thank you.

Talya McKenna,
