Dear Parents/Guardians:
This letter is to advise that a Service Dog will be attending Kingston Secondary School with our Adolescent Care Worker, Emma-Jane Hamilton, to provide accommodation for students’ social and emotional needs. It is the student’s choice to engage with the Service Dog when in a meeting with Emma-Jane. The Service Dog is hypoallergenic and trained to provide service in a manner that does not disrupt the learning environment for others and is identifiable by its vest.
Information will be shared at the K.S.S. School Council meeting on April 20th at 6:30 p.m.
Information will be provided for all students, to explain the role of the Service Dog as a working animal, not a pet, and to identify how the Service Dog will be integrated into our school community.
We respect the needs of all students in providing a safe and inclusive learning environment. Please let us know if you have any specific concerns regarding the presence of a Service Dog in our school. Thank you for your on-going support.
Sincerely,
Darlene Scarlett,
Kingston Secondary School
Principal
