Kingston Secondary School June 2023 Update

We cannot believe it is already June! We are excited to be celebrating the accomplishments of students, completing course requirements, and preparing for our graduation ceremony.

Moratorium on out of class events

All secondary schools in Limestone have a moratorium on out-of-class events during the school day as of Monday, June 12, 2023. This preserves class time at the end of a busy spring season of athletics, field trips and events to give students the opportunity to focus on assignments, prepare for culminating tests, presentations and examinations.

Student Timetables

We are working on the 2023-2024 school timetables. Students will receive access to timetables the week of June 19, 2023.

The next School Council meeting will be June 20, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. (in-person and online)

Come meet the new principal, Mr. Darren Seymour! Darren is no stranger to KSS and Module Vanier as his sons have attended both schools and he is often spotted in the stands at basketball games. We also look forward to wishing our outgoing student association head representatives all the best and welcoming our new student representatives. A reminder will be sent closer to the date with a meeting link.

Relay For Life 2023 was a Great Success!

The Relay for Life fund-raising campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society raised over $35,000. Congratulations to all the students involved with the event and special thanks to our student and staff organizing committee and staff supervisors.

What an INCREDIBLE Spring Season!

Spring sports are wrapping up with a highly successful season by our athletes. Our Senior Girls’ rugby, Senior Boys’ soccer and Ultimate teams all earned KASSAA silver medals. These rugby and soccer teams will represent KSS at the upcoming EOSSAA championships. Our Boys’ soccer achieved a silver medal at EOSSAA and our Girl’s Rugby team won the gold and they will move onto OFSAA. Our tennis team brought home the EOSSAA team championship. A number of athletes were very successful at KASSAA and EOSSAA Track & Field and 24 athletes and 5 relay teams are moving forward to the East Region Championships.

All of our teams have represented KSS throughout the spring season with class and dignity, and we are proud to see these students represent our Bears!

We thank all of our athletes and coaches!

Our graduating class of 2023 will start with a delicious breakfast catered by Mr. Alexander’s amazing culinary arts students on June 6 at 8:00 a.m. Grads will receive their time capsule letters they wrote to themselves back in grade nine; vote for class poet and valedictorian; and view the graduation slideshow.  We are all excited to celebrate the class of 2023!

Graduating Students and Families: June 29, 2023

Our graduation ceremony will be held on June 29th at 4 p.m. at The Leon’s Centre. Ms Bonney Morris-Pocock sends out a weekly email to graduating students and parents with details about graduation. We are thrilled to be celebrating together and have a facility large enough to accommodate all guests comfortably!

Please do not enter the main entrance at KSS between 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. as the area is restricted ‘entry only’ for the safety of our students and to support the safe entry and exit of our bus transportation.

Goodbye to an Incredible Educational Community

I will be leaving KSS and Module Vanier to retire at the end of the school year. I am grateful for the many years I have spent as a teacher and administrator in Limestone. It has been particularly wonderful seeing so many former students being hired in a plethora of roles within our community and their successes locally and globally over the years. I will greatly miss the students, staff and community members who make this school district such a special place.

Please reach out if we can be of assistance at 613 544-4811. Our KSS staff is committed to your student's success. Chris Morrow is the vice-principal for grades 10 and 12, Tiffiny Donnan is the vice-principal for grades 9 and 11, and Michelle Sousa is the vice-principal for Module Vanier and School to Community.

Warm regards, Darlene Scarlett, Principal  KSS and Module Vanier
