Life after High School Event  @ KSS

Are you interested in learning about life after high school?  The Trailblazers are a group of student mentors from Queen’s University who want to help you out!   If you are interested in learning about life after high school, please Fill in this form to let us know!  The trailblazers are planning to host an event after school in the KSS atrium later this month. The attached survey above will help anticipate numbers and the specific interest of students who may attend.  More information coming soon!

 

Youth in Policing Initiative 

Kingston Police is again offering a full-time  summer employment opportunity through the Youth In Policing Initative (YIPI).    The summer YIPI program session runs for eight weeks (July 2, 2024 to the week of August 30, 2024).  Applications are due May 20, 2024 at 4:00pm. Kingston Health Science Centre (KHSC) Community Virtual Volunteer Fair 

Are you interested in volunteering in Kingston?  There will be a virtual volunteer fair highlighting various Kingston organizations on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 12:00pm-1:00pm.  More information can be found here! 

 

Reminder: Summer Company deadline: May 17, 2024 

Still looking for a job this summer?  Why not work for yourself!  The Summer Company program, funded by the Ontario government, has been helping students aged 15-29 start and run their own businesses since 2001.  If you’ve got a winning idea for starting a new business and are a student who is not afraid of hard work, you should consider applying to the Summer Company program!  For application information, click here! 

 

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities           

Now is the time to get your volunteer hours done! All grade 12 students must complete 40 hours of community volunteer work prior to graduation in June. See upcoming volunteer opportunities below.  *Students who are new to Ontario this year should confirm the number of volunteer hours required with the KSS Student Services team.       

  • April 20th - JG Simcoe Yard Clean Up (1pm-3pm) Girls Inc Teen Advocacy Council school yard clean up. If interested, please contact Andrea Martin (613)433-6252   
  • April 28-30 11am-5pm each day - Queen’s University Second-hand shuffle  This event promotes environmental responsibility and helps reduce waste, while also providing an opportunity to give back to our community.  Queen’s students are invited to donate gently used items and pick up any items they need from others.  To volunteer to help at this event please sign up here! 
  • Ongoing Rideau Heights S.M.A.R.T. Academy The S.M.A.R.T. Youth Enrichment Program aims to help youth explore their creative interests, achieve educational success, and take stewardship of their future. Volunteer opportunities are available to help students in grades 4-8 with sports, mentoring, arts, recreation and tutoring (S.M.A.R.T.) in the Rideau Heights community. Upcoming Scholarship & Award Opportunities    

Don McBain Memorial Award Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) is proud to announce another year of the Don McBain Memorial Award. This award is comprised of three (3) $5000 rewards that will be distributed annually to three Indigenous students from Ontario pursuing their first year of post-secondary Studies. For more information, visit the Don McBain Memorial Award website. Application deadline is: April 26, 2024   
 

 Pittsburgh Community Benefit Fund This scholarship is available to applicants who live in the east end of Kingston (former Pittsburgh Township) who are graduating with plans to continue post-secondary training or education (trades, college, university, or other). The deadline to apply is April 30th. Follow the link above for more information.    

OJEN’s 2024 Bursary Program is open for applications  Are you a graduating high school student in Ontario? Do you plan to pursue post-secondary studies and a career in the justice sector?
